Campus Ministry Directors Regional Meetings

This was one of the most professional and beneficial conferences I have attended.

This is the best campus ministry event I have attended in at least 10 years. Keep it up!

2015 Meeting Resources
Thank you to everyone who joined the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities on January 7–9, 2015, in Tampa, FL. Attendees enjoyed exploring the ministry of administration, networking with fellow campus ministry directors, sharing best practices and insights, discussing timely pastoral topics, and improving skills in ministry assessment. Special thanks to Ann Garrido, author of Redeeming Administration and associate professor of homiletics at Aquinas Institute of Theology, who delivered a stirring keynote address.

We are happy to provide these meeting resources for campus ministry directors:

  1. Assessment Presentation by Dawn Hayward, Gwynedd Mercy University Co-Curricular or Non-Academic Assessment Templates
  2. Book Review by Denny Carr: Redeeming Administration: 12 Spiritual Habits for Catholic Leaders in Parishes, Schools, Religious Communities, and Other Institutions, by keynote speaker Ann Garrido

In a world where the word administration can conjure images of harried paper pushing, bureaucracy, and tired politics, Ann Garrido reclaims the word. Her vantage point? Through the eyes of ministry.

Through such spiritual habits as integrity, humility, and breadth of vision, Garrido walks the reader and attendees through 12 habits for Catholic leaders.

The first example of the 12 habits is breadth of vision. Garrido writes, "To the degree that administrators are able to hold and carry the big picture of an organization, they participate somehow in the mystery of God, who holds and carries the biggest picture of all" (p. 15). Offering the two creation accounts in Genesis as reflection, Garrido introduces the meditative foundation for administration as "the creation of an environment in which life can flourish" (p. 17). The eleven habits to follow build upon and nuance this inspiring perspective.

Each chapter follows a rhythm, beginning with a story about the habit and someone who embodies it well. This leads into an inventory for personal reflection. Finally, each chapter closes with a prayer to God.   In this way, Garrido aptly guides her audience 12 times with 12 spiritual habits, encouraging them to look out, look within, and look up. She shows readers how to walk with a role model, with themselves, and with God, the "Divine Administrator."

Reminiscent of St. Therese's "Little Way," targeted here to administrators, Garrido reminds those potentially burnt out by administration to rediscover the light of this important calling to serve as prudential stewards of the people, time, and resources entrusted to them.

2014 Meeting Resources
These resources originated at the 2014 Campus Ministry Directors Meeting:

Event Origins
In January 2013, ACCU held a wrap-around meeting at the CCMA National Convention in Florida for campus ministers at Catholic colleges and universities that focused on campus ministers and mission officers strengthening Catholic mission and identity together. The feedback from this meeting was very positive and strongly voiced the need to hold another gathering and include mission officers in this important conversation. Accordingly, in 2014 ACCU offered the inaugural Campus Ministry Directors Meeting to bring colleagues together to foster collaboration and discuss important topics in mission and ministry in Catholic higher education. ACCU is again proud to present this resource event in 2015.
