A Dynamic Exchange between Catholic Higher Education and the Curia

The Rome Seminar not only offers presidents,  senior administrators, and faculty leaders of ACCU institutions a firsthand opportunity to explore the intellectual and spiritual legacy of the Catholic Church in order to strengthen and promote the mission of Catholic higher education in the United States, it also gives participants an opportunity to act as ambassadors to Rome. Conducted and coordinated by ACCU senior staff and the staff of the Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas in Rome, the seminar offers a unique inside look at the Vatican and an inspiring experience of the Eternal City's spiritual treasures. Included are in-depth conversations with key representatives within the Holy See and Rome's pontifical universities.

Participants learn about various charisms, visiting sites that hold special meaning for several orders and for the whole of Catholic higher education. The group also enjoys conversation with leaders of the Pontifical Council for Culture, the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, as well as the Congregation for Catholic Education. Discussions with Vatican ambassadors, journalists, and university professors rounds out what is a truly memorable experience.

I have just completed my 20th year
as president and must admit that the Rome Seminar was one of the most
exciting and important ventures of my presidency.

It was inspiring, it was fun, it was educational. What a wonderful opportunity to meet so many people and learn so much about the Church and our relationship to it.

To enhance participants' experience, ACCU restricts the Rome Seminar to 20 individuals each year. Once 20 registrations have been received, additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list.

Spouses TrackPresidentsDinner
The ACCU Rome Seminar includes an optional spouses track, which enables family to join selected receptions, meals, and the general audience with Pope Francis. Additional activities for the spouses track are determined in consultation with the spouses, so as to tailor the experience to participants' interests. In the past, spouses have visited off-the-beaten track historical sites, taken local cooking classes, and enjoyed guided walks. Please note that the fee for spouses does not include the cost of additional tours. For more information, please e-mail
