The in-person gathering will take place at a new venue for the conference, the Capital Hilton. Find more information about the hotel, as well as the variety of pre-conference sessions, the schedule at a glance, and more, on the ACCU website.

Catholic Leaders Support Immigration Reform

Amid wind and rain, a crowd of policy makers, immigration advocates, and faith leaders gathered on Capitol Hill in late July, calling on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. DH-at-rally

Speaking on behalf of U.S. bishops, Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington said, “After years of delay, the 117th Congress now has an opportunity to be courageous by addressing immigration in a comprehensive and productive way that will provide long-desired relief for those already living as Americans.” The Cardinal, introduced by ACCU President Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, CM (pictured), called on legislators to support bipartisan immigration reform legislation that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented people living in the United States.

The event took place just one day after a U.S. district court in Texas declared the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program unlawful.

The following week, ACCU joined other higher education associations in sending a letter to Congress, urging lawmakers to “provide permanent legal protections for DACA recipients and all Dreamers.”
