The Inaugural ACCU Mission Officer Conference was held on Friday, January 27, 2012, immediately prior to the ACCU Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. In attendance were 82 mission officers from 195 member institutions.

Dr. Barbara Wall from Villanova University opened the conference with a profound keynote address titled "Our Common Mission, Our Defining Elements." The day also included a Showcase of Ideas session which featured small group presentations based on innovative new mission initiatives, including: Founder’s Week Programming (Sr. Carol Ziegler, Notre Dame College); Integrating Spirituality into the Athletic Department (Dr. Ed Hastings, Neumann University); A Cornerstones Project (Rev. Jay Fostner, St. Norbert College); Sustainability and Catholic Higher Education (Dan DiLeo, Catholic Coalition on Climate Change); and The Africa Initiative (Rev. Jim McCloskey, Duquesne University).

The afternoon opened with a panel of Seasoned Mission Officers who described concrete ways to actualize mission (Sr. Diane Kennedy, Dominican University; Msgr. Stuart Swetland, Mount St. Mary’s University; and Dr. John Wilcox, Manhattan College). Barbara McCrabb from the USCCB updated the group on news from the Committee on Catholic Education.  Finally, the day concluded with an hour-long Praying Together service that included music, the Taize prayer, and reflections on Ex corde Ecclesiae using Lectio Divina.
